I have been enjoying beyond words reading the blogs of my sister and cousin, both who are raising wonderful children, documenting all of the precious milestones these unique and wonderful babies are experiencing.
And now...a milestone for a 25-year-old. A couple of months ago, I bought myself a crockpot. Yesterday, I finally broke it out of its box. Today, when I came home for lunch, I prepared a genuine meal to cook while I was at work. Nothing fancy schmancy, just a simple chicken recipe I got out of a book. Just stuck the ingredients in the crock pot, turned it on, and left.
When I got home from work, I experienced a sensation I had not felt since...I don't even know how long. I felt like I actually came home...to a real, true home. When I walked through my doorway, I was overcome with the comforting smells of dinner cooking and a huge smile ran across my face. It was overwhelming. As most of you know, anything even remotely having to do with the kitchen has been a struggle for me for some time. So while this little moment may not seem like much on the surface, it was an immense relief, like a load had been taken off my shoulder. I just had the realization that I can actually take care of myself, and I'm not just fooling everyone. It's amazing what some chicken and spices will do. It sounds kind of cheesy, but it was actually kind of profound.
On that note, I think it's time to do some knitting.

YAY FOR CROCK POTS!!! How much do they rock?? They have saved our lives so many times, seriously. The best crock pot cookbooks EVER, from which we have made countless truly yummy recipes, is the Betty Crocker Slow Cooker Cookbook.
And by the way, I think the fact that you knit makes you way more grown up than me, anyway.
wow...you're one up on me when it comes to life in the kitchen. the crock pot definitely takes more skill than the toaster (my most-used kitchen appliance.) :)

Crockpot cooking, knitting, singing, working, caring for two children with fur, doing laundry, cleaning up spilled whiskey and NOT calling one of the children to do it for you and laughing at the effects.....Sound pretty grown-up to me!!!
